The First Tee Future Leader Forum
by Christine Uhalde
I was fortunate enough to be chosen to attend the 2009 First Tee Future Leader’s Forum. Before being chosen, I was asked to fill out a very complex application and write two essays. From this I was selected. What I learned was invaluable. The staff at The First Tee introduced us to golf course maintenance, the operation of a major golf tournament and attended many seminars and discussion groups. I was introduced to many people like myself and learned about their goals and aspirations We had the opportunity to meet many top executives from both Disney and Toro, then we listened to them speak on what the future will be like in not only in the game of golf, but in the world. We were treated so well and I felt very fortunate to be a part of this wonderful experience. It was great being in the state of Florida and especially being able to go to Disneyworld . I will never forget all the people I met and the friendships I made
Congratulations Kathleen!

The First Tee of Modesto has numerous opportunities on both the local and national level. In 2008, we had four participants awarded college scholarships from The First Tee program and one member is attending the Kansas State on TFT Leadership scholarship (This scholarship covers all tuition and living costs.)
Our goal is to continue to improve the chances of our participants to become recognized and experience the many opportunities available through The First Tee program such as:
The National Leadership Academy – The overall purpose of the Academy is to provide participants with valuable character education and leadership instruction.
The First Tee Open Selection – This is a process where participants compete to be eligible to play in The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach (Champions Tour event). This selection process is 60 percent life skills/interview and 40 percent golf skills.
RBS Achievers - This award is given to participants who have overcome challenges in their lives by upholding The First Tee Nine Core Values and have blossomed into capable individuals through The First Tee.
Future Leaders Forum - This is a three day expedition into the sport, business and science aspects of golf and it provides character education to help prepare participants to be leaders of the future.
The First Tee Scholars - The Scholars program is designed to identify and designate participants from a scholarly and leadership perspective while adding value for a variety of future career and college experiences. Being a First Tee Scholar deems eligibility for scholarship opportunities within and outside the First Tee Network.
The First Tee of Modesto Scholarship: Two First Tee of Modesto senior high school participants are awarded a $2000 scholarship each year in recognition of their commitment and service to the program. This scholarship is administered by the Stanislaus Community Foundation.
